Adult Vocational Education

  • Level 7 (Graduate Diploma) on NZQF
  • 120 credits

  • Applicant must have:
    An undergraduate degree in a related field, or degree-equivalent practical, professional, or scholarly experience.


AND

If English is not your first language, you must provide:

  • New Zealand University Entrance, OR;
  • Overall Academic IELTS 6.0 with no individual band score lower than 6.0 (achieved in one test completed in the last two years), OR;
  • Acceptable alternative evidence of the required IELTS
  • Applicants would need NZD $20,000 per annum for their maintenance BUT can work part time i.e. 20 hours per week) during term time and full time in holidays whilst undertaking study

Pathway to residency in NZ for applicant and immediate family under the 6-point Skilled Migrant Category if:

  • the applicant’s undergraduate degree is assessed as Level 7 on the NZQF (3 points), and;
  • applicant has completed 3 years of suitable full time work experience (3 points) in NZ, and;
  • applicant has secured a suitable job offer, and;
    meets all other relevant criteria.

English Language Courses

English Language Academy, University of Auckland

The ELA would suit those on a GVV who are able to study for less than 3 months and/or want an affordable way to improve their English in Auckland.
 
It offers a range of English language courses for students or professionals wanting to develop better English skills for their study or careers including:
 
  • General English 3 weeks plus $490 per week
  • Academic English 10 weeks plus $5700
  • TESOL (English for teaching) 4 or 10 weeks $2800 or $5880
  • EPUS (English Pathway for Undergraduate students) 10 weeks $6250
  • EPPS (English Pathway for Postgraduate students) 10 weeks $6250
  • CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in teaching English) 4 weeks $3600
  • FCertEAP (Foundation Certificate in English for
  • Academic Purposes) – Undergraduate 20 weeks $12500
  • FCertEAP (Foundation Certificate in English for
  • Academic Purposes) – Postgraduate 20 weeks $12500
(full time, indicative fees, multiple intakes throughout the year.)
ELA also offers:
  • Free English Courses (part time) 4 weeks plus
  • Free English Courses are taught by teachers who are on a teacher training course. Students will benefit by practicing speaking, improving listening, learning new words, improving reading, and meeting new people.

Foundation Certificate (international), Massey University College, Auckland

Good option for 20+ year dependent children who do not want to sit on a GVV and want surety of longer visa to be here in NZ with family AND they wish to improve their English and get a lead in into a Business Degree.

This is a direct Pathway into completing a Business Degree in a variety of areas e.g. Accounting, IT, Marketing etc.

Students can do:

  • General English Language Course NZD $499 per week (5 weeks minimum), THEN;
  • English for Academic Purposes Courses 1 &/or 2 NZD 4990 each (10 weeks each,  THEN;
  • Foundation Certificate NZD26,400 (8 or 12 months depending on intake date chosen).

Should be possible to combine all three of these onto ONE Pathway Student Visa.

Alternatively to the English Foundation Certificate, MUC offers a Diploma in Business Studies.

  • Applicant must have IELTS 5.5 (no band lower than 5.0) and acceptable academic results from home country.
  • Diploma is Level 5 on NZQF and is a direct pathway into Year 2 of a Business Degree in desired area. i.e. it reduces a 3-year bachelor down to 2 years.

MUC advice

  • If a student applied for our EAP/Foundation/Diploma (Business) and does not have valid English evidence for the programme entry, we can offer them to sit a one-off KITE test online (free of charge) to gain entry into the courses.

Early Childhood Education

Graduate Diploma in Teaching, Early Childhood Education, University of Auckland

  • Level 7 (Graduate Diploma) on NZQF
  • 150 credits
  • 1-year full time study
    Intakes in January
    Indicative Tuition Fees – NZD $29,641 (10x 15 pt compulsory courses either NZD3866 or NZD2577 each and 2x 0 pt compulsory courses)**
    Applicant must have:
    Undergraduate degree at a recognised university (or similar) in any discipline with GPE 2.4
    Must pass satisfactory police and safety checks + interview and referees’ report
    English Language Requirements – IELTS Academic 7.0 overall – no band less than 7.0
  • Applicants can bring their partners who are eligible for an open work visa during study
  • Partner can support dependent children who can study fee free as domestic students
  • Upon successful completion of the course, applicants are eligible for a 1 year ‘open’ work visa
  • Pathways to residency in NZ for applicant and immediate family – either:
    under Tier 2 of the Green List Work to Residence for a REGISTERED ECE Teacher (see below) or
    under Tier 1 of the Green List Straight to Residence for a PLAY THERAPIST if specific requirements are met (see below) or
    6-point SMC following 3 years of skilled work experience in NZ.

Bachelor of Teaching Early Childhood Education, Toi Ohomai, Tauranga

  • Level 7 (Degree) on NZQF
  • 360 credits
  • Must be 17 years or older
  • Must have evidence of academic ability (success at NZQA Level 4 or equivalent) and ability to succeed (via testimonials)
  • Must pass a literacy and numeracy test
  • English Language Requirements – IETLS 7.0 (Academic) or higher for each component/band
  • 3-year full time course
  • Indicative Fees – $25,000 per year
  • Applicants would need $20,000 per annum for every year of study for their maintenance
  • Can bring your partner – Partner eligible for an open work visa during course of study
  • Your partner can support dependent children for student visas if school age (at domestic fees)
  • Intakes in February only
  • Eligible for a 3-year Open Post Study Work Visa
  • Pathway to residency:
    Early Childhood Teacher – registered is on Tier 2 of the Green List and provides a Work to Residency Pathway for you and your immediate family once you have secured a suitable job offer as an Early Childhood Teacher here in NZ. You will also need registration with; and a provisional practicing certificate from; the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Master of Teaching Early Childhood Education, Toi Ohomai, Rotorua or Tauranga

  • Level 9 (Masters) on NZQF
  • 180 credits
  • -Requires at least a prior bachelor’s degree at Level 7 on the NZQF with at least a B grade average in final year of study
  • English Language Requirements – IETLS 7.0 (Academic) or higher for each component/band
  • Must pass Police Vetting check
  • Must pass a literacy and numeracy test
  • 18 months full time course – including 14 weeks of placement in early childhood centres
  • Indicative Tuition Fees – $38,750 for the full 1.5 years
  • Applicants would need $20,000 per annum for every year of study for their maintenance
  • Can bring your partner – Partner eligible for an open work visa during course of study
  • Your partner can support dependent children for student visas if school age (at domestic fees)
  • Eligible for a 3-year Open Post Study Work Visa
  • Intakes in February and July.
